Creating a Virtual machine

Creating a Virtual Machine

There are many options listed below to Deploy a Virtual Machine in your vSphere Environment.

  • Create a Virtual Machine from Scratch without Template
  • Deploy a Virtual Machine from Template
  • Clone a Virtual Machine
  • Convert a Template to Virtual Machine.
  • Deploy a Virtual Machines through OVF

In nutshell;

  • We need to have a ESXi Host.
  • Access ESXi through vCenter console or direct VI client.
  • Deploy Virtual Machine following below steps.

Step by Step Procedure to Deploy a Virtual Machine

  • Login to Virtual Center using Web Client or vSphere Client.
  • Select ESXi Host and do a Right Click.
  • Click on New Virtual Machine. It will open New Virtual Machine Wizard

  • You will need to follow the different instructions..we will input specific values like ram or Nic

We can create a virtual switch as well

A virtual switch allows virtual machines created on Hyper-V hosts to communicate with other computers. You can create a virtual switch when you first install the Hyper-V role on Windows Server. To create additional virtual switches, use Hyper-V Manager or Windows PowerShell

A virtual switch (vSwitch) is a software program that enables one virtual machine "VM"  to communicate with another. Virtual switches are also used to establish connections between virtual and physical networks and to carry a VM's traffic to other VMs or a physical network.

It is the relationship between virtual switches, VMs and physical network adapters that enables VMs to access and operate on Ethernet networks. Virtual switches ensure nearly the same functions as regular switches -- with the exception of some advanced functionalities that appear in physical switches, like the ability to create network loops.

Just like its counterpart, the physical Ethernet switch, a virtual switch does more than just forward data packets. It can intelligently direct communication on a network by inspecting packets before passing them on.

A network adapter is the physical network card in the Hyper-V host that connects to physical networks. A virtual switch is a network you create within Hyper-V. The virtual switch connects to virtual NICs that you add to VMs.
The virtual nic is associated with a virtual mac address to send and receive packets .A virtual switch can be bound to a physical NIC, allowing VMs that have their virtual NICs connected to the virtual switch to access physical networks through the NIC. The network formed by the virtual switch and physical NICs is called an external virtual network.
